Anti-wrinkle Injections

What is it?

Anti-wrinkle/anti-aging injections are known by a famous brand name.  There are three brands available in the UK that are FDA (Food and Drug Agency) approved:

  • Bocouture™
  • Azzulure™
  • Botox™

bocoutureAll of which are used interchangeably for individual client needs.

The treatment temporarily reduces lines and wrinkles in the skin that are caused by the habitual and uncontrollable contraction of the muscles in the face. These movements as we age cause the lines to be deeper and more noticeable. The injection is a modified form of Botulinum Toxin Type A, that as a drug had been used in medicine for over 30 years and has an excellent safety profile. The amounts used in aesthetics are tiny in comparison. This stops the signal that tells the muscle to move, thus reducing movement.  The injections are effective for "expression lines", such as frown on the forehead and crow's feet around the eyes.  The solution used is carried out by qualified practitioners.

How much does it cost?

This depends on how much is injected. The number of units you'll need will depend on how active your muscles are. To treat the forehead you'll need roughly 10 to 20 units, costing approximately £150.00.  The cost is about the same for treating crow's feet around the eyes.

Is the treatment painful?

Anesthetic is not usually required as the injections are very tiny causing little discomfort.  The sensation can be a stinging as the solution is injected but only lasts for a few seconds.

How long does it take to work?

Approximately 2-3 days before you may start to notice the effects, although this can be longer for some.  You will not see the full effects until 2 weeks when a review is carried out between 2-3 weeks to check the results.  It may require more injections to further relax the muscles and balance symmetry.  The treatment usually lasts 3-4 months but with regular treatments this will be longer, possibly up to 6 months.

Can you tell I have had it done?

After the treatment, there may be some slight redness, which will usually subside within a few hours.  Make-up should not be worn for a minimum of 12 hours after but mineral make-up is perfectly safe to use immediately after the treatment.

How long does it last?

The effects of the facial injections typically last three to four months, but they can last longer with ongoing treatment.

Could anything go wrong with it?

Possible side effects are usually temporary and restricted to the localised area of the treatment.  They include drooping of the eyelids, bruising, headache, face pain, redness, swelling at the injection site, skin tightness, muscle weakness, numbness or a feeling of pins and needles and nausea.

It's important to consider the ongoing cost of keeping up with the treatments to ensure that you get the best return on your investment in the long term.
